Hot Cross Buns

I think I learned a song in piano years ago that was called hot cross buns or it was a nursery rhyme thing. I can't remember where I heard it, but when I made these rolls the other night hot cross buns came to mind. Do you like King's Hawaiian rolls? If so then these are a MUST on your baking list. They taste just like King's Hawaiian rolls! Mmmmmm  I found this recipe on Pinterest and have been saving it for ages. Finally I got up the energy to make them last week. I believe the blogger that posted them is www.kim-thislittlelifeofmine.blogspot.com

Ingredients:
1 cup of water
½ cup of sweetened condensed milk *I used fat-free
1 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of butter
3 1/3 cups of bread flour*
2 teaspoons of yeast

Directions:
Dissolve water and yeast first. Then add the remaining ingredients to your kitchen aid mixer with the dough attachment. Mix everything until full incorporated. When completed mixed, remove and separate dough into 3 sections. I put one section into a bread pan and the rest I used to make rolls. Let raise for 25-30 minutes. Brush melted butter or egg white on the top of the dough prior to putting it in the oven. Bake at 340 for 30-45 minutes. I baked the rolls for 25 minutes, but they were a little over baked. I would bake them for 15-20 minutes.

Put on a cooling rack. Once cooled put some butter in the middle and ENJOY! They are so tasty!

Bart Happenings

Two quick things.

1. I hate when people don't follow the Bart rules! I feel like a little kid and want to scream I'M TELLING!!!! This chick the other day sees a guy standing in line and then proceeds to step in front of the guy to be the FIRST in line. Then looks around like what??? Now weren't we taught in preschool not to jump in people in line? Of course the little guy wasn't gonna say anything to Big Bertha. She could have picked him up and moved him 3 rows down with a flick of her finger.  I really wanted to yank her big pony tail!!!

2. It always throws me off when crazy people come screaming through a train. A man is walking quickly through the train yelling "leave me alone man. I just want to be left alone". He was all alone....no one was near him. Obliviousness!

Hair Mask

My hair has been REALLY dry lately. I have been HATING my hair! It looks dry, doesn't curl right, looks like a mess by the time I get to work. It is just UGH! I need to get a trim. I just am trying to hold off until about a week before I leave for my cousin wedding.

Fitnessista has guest posts for fashion. Recently Meg posted about a Hair Salad. I bought everything this past weekend at the store. At this point I am ready to try anything.

I took a half avocado, 1 egg and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mixed it all in a bowl. I trekked off to bathroom to put the gunk in my hair. I put it all through my ends and then covered my entire head. Pieces of avocado were falling and landing around the sink in the bathroom. blech. lol You could feel how thick the mask was on your hair. After awhile it starts to dry and get a little hard.

I left it on my hair for about 40 minutes. I washed my hair and let it air dry. A normal day if I let it air dry I look like I have an afro.  My hair just had a little frizzy to it. The next day after I styled my hair it finally looked decent! There wasn't any frizzy, the ends didn't look dry and it stayed styled nicely throughout the day!

Unfortunately I forgot to take my daily Sunday picture. Every Sunday I take a picture and send it to my mom & sister. Here is a picture with my hair mask. If you look closely you can see the chunks of avocado.

I am going to do it again in 2 weeks. Next time I am going to put it on my ends for about 30 minutes and then put the rest of through my hair for about 10 minutes. Try it out and let me know what you think of it!

My First Friend in CA!

Do you ever meet someone and click right away? My first friend in California was Cindy and we clicked as soon as we met. We quickly became bestest friends. I met Cindy within a couple days of moving to California back in 2004. Cindy worked for my former employer client.

When Art asked me out on a date on valentines I turned him down because I already has plans. I was celebrating "hate" day with Cindy. I hated valentines and she spent it with me over a plate of nachos.

She has been there help me during my quarter life crisis in my 20's, celebrate the good times, offered support during the difficult times. The past 8 years she has been there through the ups and downs of life. I can always count on her.

We've had so many fun times together. Wedding shopping - filling up our cars full of stuff. Wild nights of nachos and Target. Or just a cup of peppermint mocha from Starbucks.

Through all my pregnancy and miscarriages she has been there. She gets excited every time and hopes with me this is the time. When it isn't the time she is there for support. She always tells me to hold on to that hope.

Cindy is an amazing wife and mother. I love hearing her conversations with Libby. She talks to Libby like an adult. It's so adorable! She has the patience of a saint! Sometimes I look at her and hope one day I have half the patience with a child that she does with Libby.

I'm so thankful my first California friend turned into a life long friend!!!!

Eight years ago today I boarded an airplane to start my new life in California. My life forever changed....

I remember that day very well. My mom and I worked for the same company at the time. She drove me to the office to meet my Michigan boss to fly to CA. He was going to be spending a few weeks in CA, while the new office opened. I loaded my 2 big suitcases into the car, tearfully hugged my mom good bye and set out on my journey.

I remember that flight...I never thought it was going to end. I ended up dumping an entire cup of coffee on my new coach leather purse. Do you know that purse never showed the coffee stain! Best investment. lol

My entire move to CA was a nightmare. The movers stole my debit card, stole all my money, packed all my belongs with candles, broke stuff....ugh the list goes on. I remember thinking what in the world did I just do, as one thing after another happened. I was 2000 miles away from my family, living on my own for the first time, no money, candle wax all over my shoes, and a new boss who SCREAMED.

I remember weeks before the move going on walks almost nightly praying and asking God if I should move. I was so scared to make a huge mistake. I just wanted a big sign to drop down from heaven that said MOVE or STAY. Well my big sign never dropped.....I felt I should move. I needed a change in my life and this was my chance. The worst thing that could happen was I would hate it and I would move back home.

That one decision changed the rest of my life.

FOLLOW THE RULES!!!

My mom always made me follow the rules. Well my dad too for that matter! I remember both of them enforcing rules on us and there were consequences when they were broke. So I'm blaming my parents for this newest Bart mishap!

On the escalators the people on the left side keeps moving while the people on the right side stand still. There are certain Bart rules people just follow. It's the newbies and Giant baseball fans who are rule breakers. It drives me batty!!!

I was racing to my train, like I do everyday. A man with a suitcase gets on the escalator and stands in the left. Ugh!!!! I ask him to move to the right. Told him the left side keeps moving. The guy in front of him moved to the side. Newbies who didn't understand. They gladly followed the rules once they knew what they were.

The next set were not so understanding. Two women standing on the escalator chit chatting. One in each side. I nicely said the left side keeps moving. Well they moved to the side and I shot down the escalator. They yelled oh the left side keeps moving.....EXCUSE YOU in a very rude tone. I yelled back FOLLOW THE RULES!!!

See people if you would pay attention to all the others in front of you instead of living in the land of oblivion we wouldn't have these problems!!!!

Thrift Shopping!

A new thrift store opened near our house. Boy did I find some great items! I wish I knew someone these things would fit.

Sunday Suit!
Isn't this plaid suit a beauty?  I snapped a picture of it and sent it to my mom. I told her I had found my Sunday Suit. She replied asking if I was serious? I might be a little daring with my clothes these days, but 1970 is NOT my style!  I can't believe it was actually for sale and not in the trash!  Although the suit would have been great for a 70's party!

Along the wall are a bazillion dresses! I told Art I need to find a dress for Stephanie's wedding. He pulled out this beauty for me! Art didn't understand why I refused to try it on.

And it started....

Well the buying has started!!!! I held off buying anything for the little man for 4 days. I couldn't take it anymore! I went to Old Navy to find some cute little man clothes.  Amber has always liked skulls, so when I found the little white shirt below with skulls I had to get it. Kaleb first little outfit from Grandpa and Mimi.

I had to return some items to Marshall's, so while I was there I had to look around. What did I find? A fuzzy blanket that had skulls on it. I grabbed it so fast!

When Art found out it was a boy he was excited to have a fishing partner. He went out and bought a little fishing pole on Saturday.

I told Amber I couldn't wait to give her this stuff until the shower. The rest of what I buy I am going to have to save for the shower in October. It is hard not to go crazy and buy every cute thing I see. Kaleb is going to be one stylin little man!

Blood Donation

Last week I donated blood for the first time. It was a much faster process than I thought it would be. I had to fill out a questionnaire, they took my vital signs and checked my iron. I was VERY happy with my iron level. Low iron is 12.5 and below. My iron level was 14.9. I told the guy it's from all the green leafy veggies I eat, which is probably true.

The needle was HUGE! Ugh! I couldn't look at the needle going into my arm. After it was taken out I had a little V where the needle had been. It only took about 10 minutes to donate the blood. I was surprise how fast that part went. The longest part of the whole thing was waiting 15 minutes after I was done to go back to work. California law requires you to wait for 15 minutes after donating blood. I did feel a little light headed afterward, but within an hour I felt normal.

I can donate blood again September 21. I think I will donate one more time this year. It is such a simple procedure and beneficial to people in need.

I snapped a picture of myself sitting there. I look a little doppy. lol I was trying to sneak a picture.

Joke....

The wife left a note on the fridge:
"It's not working, I can't take it anymore! Gone to stay at my Mother's."

I opened the fridge, the light came on and the beer was cold. I have no idea what in the heck she was talking about............the fridge works fine.

WOMEN, who can understand them?
