Sammy

One night when I feeding the baby Sammt got out of his bed, laid on my spot, looked at me & went to sleep lol. Crazy dog!

Waiting for someone to throw his toy!

Sammy learned early on when we take pictures there could be a flash, so he started closing his eyes when he saw a camera. The first time I put George in him he jumped away. This time he sat there for awhile with George on his back. He is getting use to George.

He comes up to George daily and smells him. Sammy doesn't like it when George cries. If we aren't by the baby he will come get one of us. If we have George Sammy stands by us until he stops crying.

Menu Monday

It is time to pull out the crockpot again this week.

Orange Chicken - I am going to put chicken thighs in the crockpot, pour Panda Express orange sauce over the chicken and cook for a few hours. I will serve with rice & steamed veggies.

BBQ Chicken - Same thing as above but using BBQ sauce.

BBQ Chicken Pizza - I will use leftover BBQ chicken

Costco Pineapple Sausages - I recently picked these up and they are super yummy!

I bought 5 pounds of chicken thighs at Costco 2 weeks ago, so it is time to use them. Art is going to be chickened out by the end of the week. My goal is to make enough to have leftovers for lunches.

I recently started doing a lot of shopping at Costco. Their prices are just so much better than the grocery store. I can buy enough sour cream for a month for less than I would pay for 2 grocery trips. Same with mayo and veggies.

Sammy especially loves it when I go to Costco to buy rotisserie chicken. He gets very excited when he comes home to smell "his" chicken. He thinks this chicken is all for him. He will walk around the kitchen whining each night until he gets chicken. Sometimes he doesn't feel it is enough, so he whines & whines for more. If he doesn't get chicken in his food he will go on a hunger strike. We have created a monster! I didn't buy a chicken this week manly because I am sick of it. When Bing Bong is born I think I will send someone to Costco to buy a chicken for Sammy. That should help him transition. lol

Get Well Sammy!

We have gone to 7 vet appointments, woke up around the clock to give pain pills, hand feeding our little boy. I am happy to report he is back to himself! I stayed home two weeks ago with our little guy to make sure he was ok and to take him to the vet again.
Sammy is on 2 pain meds and steroids. The first night we gave him everything and he laid on my lap drugged up. Then he started drooling on my leg. LOL He slept through the night for the first time ever!
He has been laying in his crate whining away. He is NOT happy he is in doggie jail. The vet said we don't have to keep him in a crate anymore. As overbearing parents we think he needs another week. We are going to keep him in the crate another week. He will be sleeping in his crate from now on. We have to make sure he doesn't jump on furniture which is going to be our biggest challenge.

A house is not a home without a dog!

On Saturday Art said Sammy was acting funny. I didn't notice he was acting funny because he was laying down when Art told me. Art got up & left the room. Sammy decided to jump off the couch. He looked like he was drunk. He couldn't walk straight, leaning to one side and could barely walk. I yelled for Art. We decided to take him to the vet. Sammy got excited when I put his collar on, so I thought he might want to walk with me to the truck. That is when it got worse. He started to run, fell over and couldn't walk.

Art & I were a mess! We left him at the vet for about 2 hours. They called to say they weren't sure if he hurt his leg or if it was neurological. If he hurt his leg it would repair itself in a couple weeks. The vet was running a bunch of tests and would call us on Sunday with the results. The thought of losing our little furbaby was just waaaay too much to even think about. I was in tears until we picked him up. Once I saw him I felt a lot better.

Sunday Sammy seemed to get worse. He was yelping like crazy when he moved or we moved him. He was in so much pain. He was shaking in pain after he snapped at a fly. He LOVES to chase bugs. The vet called us later in the afternoon to go over his blood work. All his blood work was completely fine. I started to tell her what was going on. She was very concerned and told us to take him to a vet that was open.

Oh boy was the second vet a disaster. She pretty much told us he needed surgery or we would need to put him down. I was in tears trying to hold it together. We were sent to the specialty hospital. I held Sammy the whole way there bawling. Thank goodness because vet #3 Dr. Finster was simply AMAZING! She examined Sammy and came to us with options. We did not want to do surgery. Dr. Finster told us he had a ruptured disk in his neck. She was very optimist he would return to almost normal with steroids and complete bed rest for 4-6 weeks.

Sammy laid on the couch all night Saturday. We fed him on the couch. He was himself - alert and cuddly. He wasn't happy he had to lay around. When he would get up he would whine and yelp with pain.

Saturday night was rough! Every time we left Sammy side he would whine & cry. Neither of us got much sleep. When Art would leave the room he didn't whine as much. I think he played Art more since he has Art wrapped around his paw.

I stayed home with him on Monday and took him for a follow up appointment. I felt so much more hopeful on Monday that he will recover. He was NOT happy with the fact he was in doggy jail. He spent most of the day sleeping or whining. I would hold in occasionally to reassure him we love him. I just want him to recover the best he can, so he will be living in the kennel up to 6 weeks. I am going to be the strict mean parent who will enforce the rules. The mother in law will get strict instructions later today on what she must do when Sammy is at her house.

As you can see above Sammy ignored me when I put him in his kennel. lol Pouter! Needless to say our weekend was crazy emotional. I am so glad he seems to be doing better. He is barking at the mailman, eating, responding when his paws are turned upside down, pouting because we are mean. He will not eat or drink in his kennel. When I put water in there he dumped it over. I put some food it there he took his nose and pushed it away. Typical toddler behavior when he doesn't get his way.

Sammy's Birthday!!!

Today our little fur baby Sammy was rescued 3 years ago. Each year we celebrate Sammy birthday on the day we adopted him. The first year I went ALL out here.  Sammy is probably 5 years old. We are guessing he was about 2 years old when we got him.

Sammy has brought us so much joy over the past 3 years. I can't imagine life without him. We went to numerous places looking for a dog. When we found him I fell right in love. I was a little concerned through because they said he could nip people. We haven't had any issues with nipping. I am glad we didn't let the ASPCA scare us off.

Pictures from Saturday

I don't know what is going on with my phone, but all the pictures are grainy. I have never had this issue in the past. It is very frustrating! Hopefully I will be able to fix it. I take a lot of pictures with my phone throughout the week that I use for my blog.

Here are pictures from Saturday. Kaleb spent the day with us. It is always an adventure when he comes over.

I sent this picture to Amber and we had a conversation back & forth as to what Kaleb was thinking.
"hey lady it is too early for pictures"
" I haven't even had time to brush my hair or my gums"
lol

Art started to till our garden. I think we might be planting our garden based on North Dakota standards this year.

I have been wearing a scarf whenever I go outside to make sure the sun does not get on near my scar.

Stay tuned on Tuesday for my strawberry chicken spinach salad post.

Mr. Sammy pouts when Kaleb comes over because Sammy is not the center of attention. He was outside pouting because I wouldn't let him lay in the bedroom while Kaleb napped. Sammy started barking, so I chased him out of the bedroom.

Kaleb flying on Grandpa!

Kaleb loved crinkling the M&M package. This picture made me crack up because it looks like hey where are my M&M.

DINNER!
Our meal cost about $5 bucks. The chicken was on clearance at Fresh & Easy. I had bought the chicken for $1.75 for 2 chicken breasts and froze them. They had a stuffing on the top along with mushrooms and a gravy to pour over the top. The kale came from our garden and the rice cost about $2.50. It was a fabulous meal.

I was in So Cal for 4 days this week. Sammy was very upset that I was gone. He barely ate and laid around sad. Art said each night he would run in the house looking for me. When he couldn't find me he would walk to bed & stay there all night. Poor little fur baby. Last night he went crazy when he came home and found me on the couch. He was jumping on me and running through the house at full speed lol. The rest of the night he laid on me or beside me all night.  Such a funny dog!
