Halloween Costumes

This is a long over due post, but I wanted to post about our Halloween costumes. I started thinking about Halloween costumes before George was even born. Art dresses up as a Viking almost every year. There has only been 1 year where he dressed up as a pirate since we have been together. Kids that has almost been 10 years.

We had to be Vikings! I didn't want to do it our first year because George was too little. I knew no one would see us, so we saved it for this past year. I sewed our skirt and pants. We bought the fur from the fabric store. I used some of the fur and some leather strings to tie around our boots, so they were furry. This worked really well. The helmets came from various places - Halloween super store, Amazon, Etsy and a little gift shop.

It was in the 80's on Halloween, so the furs only stayed on for the pictures and to arrive at our party. Once we arrived we quickly shed all our furs. George was darling!

Crafting

The craft room is now gone and has been transformed into a nursery. I will post pictures once it is completed. I got rid of a lot of craft stuff and moved the rest into the guest bedroom. Well I finally got the bug to start making some stuff for the little man. Art asked if I was depressed because I was crafting. lol I told him no I am nesting.

One night I cut everything out and the next day I sewed it all together. I have a pile of other stuff I still want to make. I left the pile of fabric in a box near my spot on the couch, so I will work on it each week.

Puppy & Mustache burp clothes

A lady at church just had a little girl, so I made some burp clothes and bibs for her.
I also made my little man some bandanna bibs.

My list of items I want to make are:
mustache flannel blanket
farm animal waffle knit blanket
camo bib
more burp clothes
decorative onesies
wet bags

Burp Clothes

While I was visiting Krystal she asked me if I could sew some fabric on her burp clothes. I had brought some fabric along with me and I got to work. Here are the burp clothes I fancied up for her.

Red Pencil Skirt

I have been wanting a JCrew red pencil skirt, but I don't want to pay $100+.  I have kept my eyes open at different stores to see if I can find something similar. I haven't had any luck. I decided maybe I could make myself one.  I ran to the fabric store on Saturday. They had 40% off fabric and patterns for $1.99.

I was a little nervous to make the skirt because I don't have the best luck with sewing myself things. Usually they turn out too big or too small. I also haven't ever made a skirt with darts. I measured myself to see which size I should sew. Here is another thing with sewing I am 4 sizes larger according to the pattern than what I buy in the store. How does that work?

It took me about an hour to make the skirt from start to finish. The pattern was super simple. I even mastered darts! I am pleased with how great it turned out!  I am going to make myself a couple more skirts with the pattern. I have cream & brown herringbone fabric I want to use next.

The picture above turned out kind of weird! The flash didn't go off and the background was super white!

Altered Tshirt

I bought a packet of men's tshirts.  I had planned to do something DIY with them, but I wasn't sure what.  When I tried them on they were bagging & looked like I had a paper bag on.  I took one of my tshirts that I like how it fits & used it as my pattern.  I pinned it down to the big baggy tshirt. I then cut the extra part of the tshirt.

Then I sewed up the sides, sewed the arms back on, cut a v-neck & wa-la.  Once I wore the tshirt I think the shoulders and the sleeves are a little too big.  I might try to alter the shoulders. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Tshirt Refashioning

I bought this tshirt yesterday at Old Navy. It was actually a tshirt dress. I thought this would be perfect for a refashioned tshirt. I cut it to the legth I wanted a tshirt. I used the rest of the fabric to cut hearts. I sewed each of the hearts to the shirt.

Alexis taught us yesterday at our class how to make this tshirt. I am so in love with it! I want to make a ton more. It was so simple too! The most time consuming part of it was sewing each heart on. I think it took me an hour to make.

Jcrew is selling these tshirts for $35 bucks. I made mine for $4 bucks. What a deal!

Tshirt Refashion Class

Yesterday was my tshirt refashion class. I had so much fun. Alexis is so talented! She is incredibly sweet! Here are the tshirts I made yesterday. Pictures didn't turn out very good. The shirt don't haev spots. My camera is acting up.

I added the flower today. I am not sure about it. I want to add something else to this shirt, but I am struggling. Maybe I need to add 2 flowers.

The first weekend in October Art always goes away with his buddies for lumber jack days. This year I was trying to plan something fun to do. I was just reading some of the blogs I subscribe too and read mymamamadeit.blogspot.com was offering a class in Santa Cruz, CA. It's a tshirt refashion class. I called the studio to see if they still had space and what I would need to bring with me. I just need to bring at least 2 tshrits. I signed up immediately! I love how "my mama made it" refashions clothes! I have been wanting to make tshirt with ruffles, so here is my chance!!!!!

Phone & Camera Case

iPhone Case Front
iPhone case - Back

Camera case

One of the nesties sent me a picture of a case she found and wanted to know if I could make her one. I sent her a couple pictures of fabric and she picked the birds. It was super easy. I put batting in the middle of each layer and put a small pocket in the inside. This way she can put her ID in the case with her phone and head to the gym.

New Skirt

Last weekend I sewed myself this new skirt. It's sooo comfy! I just love it. I used one of my jean skirts as a pattern. Added a few inches, made a waste band, and added elestic to the back. I was very pleased with how it turned out. I want to make a couple more.

Sewing

Here are a few things I have been sewing lately. I think I have made about 8 bibs, 8 burp cloths, 10 wet bags, 2 dresses, and 4 onesies. I have added some of these items to my etsy site. The little dresses are just soooo adorable.
