Monday Thrive

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend! It has been soooo hot for us. It has been running in the high 80's. Thankfully it has been cooling off at night, so the house cools off too.

1) I have been going to the thrift store for the past year and a half to buy G jeans. I usually buy him 1-2 pair from Gap. I buy him 5-7 pairs for play at the thrift store. I usually can buy them for about $1.50-$2 a pair. Depending on the brand and condition I will pay up to $4 a pair.

I have a system I use when I am at the thrift store. I start a pile of his current size, must have an adjustable waist, straight leg and the knees need to look good. If they don't fit those requirements they stay on the rack. Once I have a pile I then go through my pile and pick out the best pairs. I went to the thrift store last weekend and I was able to score 5 pairs for $11. One pair is a 5T, but they were in really great condition for only $2.25. If the jeans get ruined for whatever reason I am not upset because I got a deal on them.

2) I recently bought a new tumblers. I don't want to use plastic cups anymore, so I bought a stainless steal one on Amazon. It's a Haute 30 oz tumbler in a light pink. Let me just say this thing is AMAZING! I left it in the car twice on days when it was 80 degrees for up to 4 hours. I had ice water in the cup. When I returned to the car there was still ice in the thing!

I bought these straws to go with my tumbler. I really like them. When I run the dishwasher I just through the straws in. I have enough to rotate.

The instructions for the tumbler said not to put it in the dishwasher. I have been diligent about hand washing each time. I love this thing! It is worth the money especially for the summer! I took it with me to the zoo last week. It fits in my stroller cup holder. I had nice cold ice water through our entire zoo visit. If you know me then you know I drink A LOT of water. Water is so important for your health! Make sure you are getting your water in each day.

3) I have talked about BeautyCounter's Mattifying Powder during a previous Monday Thrive. I have to say again how much I just love it. This past weekend like I said it was really hot. One morning I didn't put any powder on after I did my make up. Usually I put on my concealer, then put on some powder. Once I have completed all my eye make up right before my mascara I also put on the powder. I have noticed it helps my mascara stay in place better all day. Well I noticed a HUGE difference by not using it at all one day. Possibly from the heat too but I looked like a raccoon half way through the day. I don't have a problem with my eye make up coming off if I use the powder.

4) Can we talk about toddlers and straws? Why do they need to bite the ends of them? This cup was like 5 minutes old and already the straw was destroyed. A week later this same straw is bitten up half way down. I had to buy more sippy cups since we stopped using bottles. It has been 3 weeks since we took his bottles away. He doesn't ask for them anymore. Once in awhile he will mention them. If he wants milk he is happy to have it in a cup.

5) I took Bart to work almost every day for 7 years. I usually had a good store about the riders at least once a week. You do become immune to the insanity going on around you. I learned very early on to put headphones on or I would end up being highly annoyed every day on my commute. I don't have patience for nonsense in the mornings and some of these folks - holy cow!  Well last week I took G to San Francisco. On the way home we were at one of the stations. I looked to see some person sleeping on a bench, but they had so kindly taken their shoes. It cracked me up! They weren't on their couch. People walk all over those benches, so they could have kept their shoes on.

Bart Happenings

Poor little pooch was NOT happy to be on Bart.

Please look closely....this woman had on open toe shoes with little footies. I couldn't get a very good picture. I just had to crack up with this outfit. Last week on Bart the outfits belonged on Fashion Police.

Bart Happenings

Just another day on Bart! I am soooo happy Bart is back up and running! I really hope Bart gets a contract in place within the next 30 days, so we don't have to suffer through another strike.

I really don't know what is wrong with people to think it is safe to be riding a bike through the Bart station. Oblivious!

This Crazy Busy Life!

Boy life has been crazy lately!

  • Bart descided to strike due to their union contract which made it a nightmare for 400,000 people each day trying to get to work. This week I have gotten up at 4am, drove to the ferry and took it across the bay. Thankfully there was a holiday in the mix and I was able to recover partially one day. Bart is claiming to be up and running by 3pm today. I sure miss my friend Bart!!!!

  • I am helping with another department at work for the next couple weeks. I am trying to get everything organized and running properly, which is a HUGE task. I have been working 10-12 hour days.

  • Dealing with MTC, crazy commute hours and extra work hours is a major challenge at the moment. I am trying to keep everything running, but some areas are failing. The blog has been put on the back burner for right now. I told my mom I would make a website for her new store and I haven't even been able to start it. I hope to be back on track the week of the 15th.

Bart Strike

Well the Bart strike happened. I was convinced it wouldn't happen. my opinion changed on Saturday when I heard the union side walked away from the bargaining table. The deadline for the new contract was the end of the day Sunday.

I negotiated my first union contract this year, so as a pro I find the union actions unacceptable!  You do not walk away in the middle of negotiations. Around 400,000 people take Bart every day. Now these people are forced to find other ways to work.

I took the Ferry bright & early this morning. I was out of bed at 430 arriving at the Ferry at 530am.  I was worried the parking lot would be packed. I parked in the front row. There were around 40-50 people in line and another 40 people got on the ferry once I was on.

I am not looking forward to a 4:30 wake up until Bart gets their acts together.

People lined up for the Ferry.

The news was interviewing! Where is my mom because she would have been in front of that camera!

It is not wise to fall asleep on the Bart train because your picture could end up on the blog!

Bart Happenings

Ignore the chick in the yellow skinnie pants. Check out the hootchie that got on Bart missing one thing....her bra. What in the world!

Bart Happenings

Here is the character riding on Bart. He pulled out a black baggie with a brownie. The entire train stunk like a skunk. It was HORRIBLE! Thank goodness I was getting off the train or I would have had to move to another car. He decided to prop his feet up, eat his brownies, call someone on the phone and mumble.

Bart Happenings

Last Wednesday I was riding Bart on my way to work. My routine in the morning is I listen to music and get caught up on online reading. I was sitting in my seat minding my own business when I see a lady jump up and yell I DO I DO. The lady started running down the crowded aisle pushing people to the side as she went.  I was like what in the world is going on? Why is she saying I DO I DO? Then I hear people talking about someone needing CPR. The intercom in my train car wasn't working. People were running to other cars to call the train operator to get him to call for a medic.

People were saying the lady had stopped breathing, others were worried she was going into shock and people were jumping up & down trying to see what was going on at the end of the train. We arrived at the next station and medics were waiting. Luckily the lady was awake and alert as we pulled away from the station. I am not sure exactly what happened, but it was super scary. It was nice to see everyone acting quickly and helping the lady out.

Why is there always one in the group that causes a ruckus though? There was one lady screaming TAKE OFF YOUR COATS, GET A BLANKET, DON'T LET HER GO INTO SHOCK, SOMEONE DO SOMETHING. Now the woman screaming was at the other end of the train, had no idea what action was being taken or what was even going on. I was tempted to call medics to have her taken off the train for losing her mind!

By the time I got to work I didn't need coffee because I was WIDE awake!  Always an adventure on Bart!

Bart Happenings

I snapped this picture of a man on his phone with a lonely balloon. It was a little random to see just one lonely yellow balloon sitting beside this guy.  He was waiting for the next Bart train.

Bart Happenings

Please take a look at the lady on the left. She had 2 flowers in her hair and it made it look like horns coming out of her head.

This guy was not on Bart, but I did a double take of his outfit. It would be SUPER cute on a girl, but it just looked funny to me on a guy. I could never imagine my dad or husband wearing something like this. He looked like he was going to Easter dinner.

The chick above had a HUGE suitcase. You can't even see how huge the suitcase is from this picture. She kept moving it to the wrong side of the train and had to keep moving. I was sure the stroller was going to bust in half. Then she started SCREAMING on her phone - she did NOT have enough money to be eating at Golden Corral every night. She wanted to go to her friends house to eat and save her cash. Why EVERYONE on the train needed to hear this I have NO idea!

Bart Happenings

A couple weeks ago I was getting on Bart. A guy looked around to see if people had room, then he pulled out a folder chair and took a seat. I was cracking up at him! He had his fold up chair, laptop and phone. The guy worked away. Now he should market Bart folding chairs, so people don't have to stand the whole way.

Bart Happenings

Can you see that lady with the scarf around her head?  That woman was BUNDLED up beyond bundled up!!!  She had on a huge coat, 2 scarfs and then wrapped another scarf around her head and you could only see her eyes. This is what happens when you live in California and there is a 30 degree morning!

Bart Happenings

Probably the funniest drunk/high guy on Bart last week. As the train approached the platform he was chasing the train. When the doors opened he ran inside, grabbed the bars and started swinging. Then he started telling people how to do pull ups. How the bars were great to do pulls ups or swing on them. He was swinging around on the bars trying to talk to everone. Then he starts yells "hey where am I going San Francisco?" He started to go to a different train car and then came back. He saw a seat, sat down and fell asleep for a little bit. When we got to my station he asked where the train was going and realized he was headed the wrong direction. He ran out and I don't know what happened to him.

Here is a picture of the crazy man napping.

Bart Thursday

I'm sure glad Bart wasn't packed! I'm not sure if that's a musical instrument or a person!

Bart Happenings

Last week I was walking to my train and I could hear clip, clip, clip. UGH someone was clipping their finger nails in the Bart station. I wanted to SCREAM. I get up to my line and I see a woman ahead of me clipping her nails. The nails were just flying every where. I wasn't sure if I wanted to scream or throw up! GROSS!

Then I got on my train and I see this chick standing in front of me. I am sorry....but do people REALLY not look in the mirror? I am not even sure if this outfit is appropriate to wear under a snow suit!
