Re-Dye Denim Skirt

I have a favorite jean skirt that is super faded.  I bought the skirt at Old Navy about 6 or 7 years ago.  The skirt is still in great shape except the color is extremely faded.  I decided I was going to try to dye the skirt.  It was at the point I wasn't going to be wearing the skirt anymore, so what did I have to lose?  After the last dye flop I should have been a little more scared, but I forged ahead!

I followed this blog on how she dyed a denim skirt.

I bought 1 bottle of navy blue and 1 bottle of black RIT dye.  I dumped half of each bottle into hot water along with 1/2 cup of salt. Follow the instructions on the bottle of the dye or use the blog instructions above.  I noticed after awhile the water looked purplish and wasn't quite the color I was looking for, so I dump the rest of the blue into the bucket.  Exactly the color I wanted in the end.

I was able to dye one jean skirt and one pair of jeans with my bucket of dye.  I LOVE how the skirt turned out.  Let me tell you though when it comes to rinsing the fabric it takes FOREVER! The skirt does not have spots that didn't dye like the picture shows.  I took numerous pictures, but the spot kept showing up. : (

I highly suggest dying denim if you want a dark color.  It cost about $5 to dye 2 items. I bought the dye at Joann Fabric on 50% off.
